ABOUT THIS PAINTING
In Wonderland, there’s a scene where the Queen’s gardeners frantically paint white roses red, trying desperately to make things appear the way they should be.
Hearts Garden is my version of that scene, except instead of covering up, I’m letting everything grow wild. The marks here are organic and unforced, blooming wherever they want to. There’s no careful arrangement, just honest expression finding its way to the surface.
In making this I realized the messy parts, the contradictions, the colours that clash, they all deserve space. That’s what makes us real.
The inner landscape doesn’t need to be manicured to be beautiful. Sometimes the wildest gardens are the ones that teach us the most about what it means to grow.
