ABOUT THIS PAINTING
There’s a difference between breaking down and breaking open. One feels like an ending, the other like a beginning. This piece is about the latter.
I painted this when I stopped trying to keep everything contained. The layers here are messy and overlapping, full of movement and contradiction. Nothing is neat or resolved because breaking open isn’t a tidy process.
The bright bursts of colour feel like what emerges when I stop holding so tight. They’re unexpected, unplanned, and somehow exactly what the piece needed.
This reminded me that sometimes the best thing I can do is let myself crack a little. That’s where the light gets in.
